Downes definitely needs to play this one - I think he'll relish the challenge. Mr Dour won't play him though. Not a chance while Soucek has two legs.

Spot on El Scorcio. Wing backs are critical for 3-5-2 to work. The one wing back we did sign is not looking too good either. We are better currently with a back four.

I quite like 3 at back but as I say it's critical the wing backs push up into midfield as wingers. That then allows the advantage of 3 central midfielders and 2 wide wingbacks to dominate midfield.

Then set up properly you can play two strikers or another withdrawn striker.or attacking midfielder.

I think we'd do very well with -

..Bowen ....Soucek Downes............Benrahma

.........................Paqueta.........Scamacca

I think this would be the kind of attacking format most fans would like to be seen given a chance to blossom

I don;t feel we are proactive enough without the ball either. When you see some of the pressing that other sides do, which undoubtedly throws the opposition off their stride and makes them uncomfortable in possession, and what we often do with sitting back and giving them a lot of the pitch to work with, it really feels we are handing initiative over and missing a trick. And it's not a 'skill' thing either. Granted you can't go headless chickens and get pulled out of position but it can be taught. It might have helped us in the first half on Sunday, to cover up some defensive frailties.

This 3-4-3 really doesn't help either. We get outnumbered in the middle which results in poor ball retention and not being able to build well, and we only have one real wing back. No idea why he persists with it. Much like I've no idea why Southgate does for England either.

I understand against SOuthampton why he did it with all the propler CBs injured, but when they come back we must revert to four at the back. It suits us better.

I still feel it more about bad passing than anything else. We passed poorly were always on the back foot yesterday until we woke up and then we couldn't finish.

In a Moyes team he's definitely a first pick.........does all that Moyes asks and more even to the point of being a threat in front of goal from corners....in fairness though Moyes puts enough players in front of him for him to have control of certain situations that he may not get if we were a 'on the front foot' team.

We stopped 'closing down and chasing' about a season and a half ago......we sit back and hope to ping it back out of the area.....it's why Dawson is the best fucking player we've got.....

We are going to be doing a fair bit of closing down and chasing at Anfield so I'd be playing Downes instead of Soucek.
If Moyes is going to break his lifetime duck away at Anfield he will also need to show SOME positivity for once .... ie use the threat of Benrahma
Scamacca should have had 5 goals in the last two Premier league games .... hopefully he gets them back on Wednesday.
If we are going to be timid & defeatist it will be the same old result Moyes has always got there.

Abysmal performance from the match officials which cost us 2 points. Having said that with 25 shots at goal equally abysmal that we only scored 1 goal!

The way Paqueta controlled the ball in mid air and volleyed a through ball into Scamacca was pure art I almost threw a can of tomato soup at my telly.

I don't agree about one or the other. declan showed again yesterday that he's more than capable of pushing forward and contributing, as has downes in the european games. fuck waiting until man u or palace, downes should be starting wednesday
